For Eric Tapper, guiding students through their B’nai Mitzvah journey isn’t just about teaching prayers and Torah as helping them build confidence in themselves, their learning, and their Jewish identity. As director of the B’nai Mitzvah Campaign (BMC), Eric focuses not only on what students learn but on how they learn, equipping them with the skills to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and engage with their heritage in a way that feels personal and relevant. The b’nai mitzvah ceremony is the first time in many students' lives where they will lead their community, and not just in skill-based practice, but in sharing their developing worldview on what it means to take responsibility. This confidence extends far beyond their ceremony, preparing them to navigate a complex world with a stronger foundation and a more nuanced understanding of what it means to be Jewish.

Eric’s own journey started after his Bar Mitzvah ceremony, when he began leading Shabbat services alongside his mentor, Cantor Anna Berman. What began as a love for Jewish music and tradition grew into a lifelong calling—mentoring students, developing educational and international service programs, and helping families create meaningful, customized B’nai Mitzvah experiences.

Eric’s background as a professional musician also plays a key role in his approach. Having performed everywhere from the iHeart Music Festival in Las Vegas to Brooklyn Bowl and Juilliard, he knows the power of connection and expression—skills he brings into his teaching to help students feel confident in their prayers, Torah readings, and leadership on their big day.

Beyond BMC, Eric is an entrepreneur with a passion for creativity, leadership, and building meaningful experiences. He lives and works in New York City, always striving to make Jewish learning accessible, joyful, and tailored to each student’s unique journey.
