Fulfilling Milestones to Jewish Adulthood

“Judaism is caught, not taught”

— RABBI ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHEL

ABOUT US

B'nai Mitzvah Campaign (BMC) is a New York City Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring service that provides a meaningful learning experience to Jewish adulthood. Through the use of creative experiential learning techniques such as trope dance, BMC transforms traditional and often dull Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation into an exciting and memorable transformative period.  Drawing from the educational campaign model, BMC incorporates MiLEstones in the program to give encouragement and a sense of achievement to the student, track the overall progress of the student, and add excitement to the Meaningful Learning Experience at BMC.

  • or need supplemental learning for their current study with a synagogue.

We’ve perfected our methodology with 100+ students over the past 5 years. We integrate modern sensibilities and a deep sense of tradition for both our tutoring and officiating services.

OUR METHODOLOGY

GROOVE

Dance your way through trope! We believe learning through movement better engages tired school students and reinforces trope, the complex musical system that is necessary to learn for reading Torah.

SCHMOOZE

We always keep the material interesting with liturgical explanations, content understanding, and of course, our natural Jewish humor working through difficult material at times.

CHOOSE

In the first session, students choose their creative and artistic medium by which to express themselves as to why they want to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Meet The Tutors

Tutor-Student Relations

BMC tutors serve not only as teachers, but also as Jewish role-models and friends to their students. Tutors at BMC work hard to find room for casual conversation, creating the atmosphere for genuine mentor-mentee relationships.  We pride ourselves in cultivating tutor-student friendships, offering our students an experience in the form of a fun activity as their ceremony gift.

Pre & Post-Ceremony Engagement

BMC's ultimate goal in providing meaningful learning experiences for b'nai mitzvah ceremony preparation is to inspire youth to choose to remain engaged in their Jewish community and tradition post-ceremony. Thus, BMC offers both pre and post-ceremony engagement through group and continued 1-on-1 dynamic Jewish learning, catered to the desires and needs of our students.

BMC Officiating

BMC offers a highly energetic, engaging and professional officiating team for families seeking an alternative b'nai mitzvah ceremony experience or for families that simply do not belong to a congregation or community. Drawing our authority from the rich history of the evolution of the b'nai mitzvah ceremony, BMC has re-imagined the ceremony experience, crafting each b'nai mitzvah ceremony to be uniquely meaningful for each individual family. Our officiating team is comprised of Eric Tapper, the Master of Ceremonies, and BMC's team of musicians (guitarists, keyboardists and a drummer), who come together in any combination to provide meaningful and memorable b'nai mitzvah ceremonies.

Tutors at the Ceremony

At BMC, we prepare our tutors to guide their students not only through the tutoring, but also the ceremony itself. Whether we are providing officiating services or not, our tutors are present for any run-throughs you may have and also for the actual ceremony. It's helpful for students to have their tutors at their side during the ceremony, and it's important to us that we are a part of celebrating students' b'nai mitzvah milestones.
